Protect your business from ransomware

Northamptonshire Police is supporting a national cyber security campaign following a rise in ransomware attacks against UK businesses.

Between April 2025 and March 2026, 323 UK organisations reported ransomware attacks. In the same period, there were 33 reports of ransomware attacks in Northamptonshire.

Ransomware is a type of cyber attack where criminals encrypt your data and demand payment to restore access. Businesses are encouraged to remain vigilant and take simple steps to reduce their risk.

Key advice for businesses:

Back up important data regularly and store copies offline.

Use strong passwords and enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).

Keep software, devices and security systems up to date.

Follow National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) guidance.

If your organisation is experiencing a ransomware attack:

Report it immediately to Report Fraud on 0300 123 2040 (24/7 reporting line).

Do not pay the ransom, as there is no guarantee your data will be recovered.

Preserve evidence and seek specialist cyber security support.
